Emerald Pools, Zion National Park, Utah

“Autumn’s Splendor”
Limited Edition of 195 | Artist Proof 25

Named for their green color caused by algae growth, this beautiful series of pools and waterfalls cascade down the northwest wall of Zion Canyon, Zion National Park. Fed by a small creek originating in Heaps Canyon, the pools and waterfalls provide natural irrigation for cottonwood, Box elder, maple and oak and sustain the lush hanging gardens of ferns and moss growing along the sandstone layers above the pools. Black desert varnish from the waterfalls has stained the ridges above the pools with a dark patina.
