The warm glow of sunset illuminates an alcove in the upper walls of Navajo Canyon, providing a dramatic setting for this beautiful cliff dwelling. It was inhabited by Ancestral Puebloans between A.D. 1200 and 1300. Named after its prominent four-story-high structure, the 80 room Square Tower House is unique in comparison to the free-standing round towers found elsewhere in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. This 52,073 acre World Heritage Site preserves more than 4,000 archeological sites, approximately 600 of which are cliff dwellings.
